How long does registering with Practice Plus usually take?
Registering with us is very quick and easy, whether you do it online, by calling us or by filling in a paper form. If you’re registering online or by telephoning us you can use your account straight away. For online registrations, it takes us just under two hours, during our opening hours, to process your registration, or if you register when we are closed we will process your registration by 10am the next day. We will let you know as soon as we have so that you can use the symptom checker and book appointments. We process paper registrations the day we receive your paperwork.
It can take a few weeks for your records to transfer from your old surgery to us, but we will always keep you informed about progress, and this will not stop you being able to make appointments or use our other services.
How do I register and what do I need?
You can register with Practice Plus online at www.practiceplus.co.uk/registrations, in person at your local Practice Plus surgery, or over the phone by calling us on 0300 130 3333. However you choose to register, you’ll be asked to show some photo ID and a proof of address at your first appointment. This is simply to check your identity so that when we review your medical records or prescribed treatment we can be sure everything is correct. If you are registering online you will need to bring your photo ID either when you visit for your first appointment, or you can bring this into one of our surgeries during opening hours and present your ID to a receptionist.

- Go to www.practiceplus.co.uk/registrations and follow the simple instructions there.
- Check the details are correct and click “Register”
Once we have received your registration form, we’ll request your medical records from your old practice to be transferred to Practice Plus as soon as possible.
When you come for your first appointment at your local Practice Plus surgery, please bring your photo ID and proof of address with you.
Do I have to pay to use Practice Plus?
No. Practice Plus is like any other NHS GP service, so there is no charge for NHS patients.
Can I try it out for free?
All NHS patients can use Practice Plus for free as long as you have registered as a patient with us. If you try us and decide you’d rather switch to another GP practice, you can do so at any time.
Do I have to leave my current surgery if I register with Practice Plus?
Yes. You can only be registered with one GP practice at any one time. So registering with us means you are leaving your old practice and joining Practice Plus instead. You are, of course, free to move to another practice at any time.
Can I go back to my old surgery if change my mind about registering with Practice Plus?
Yes. You can simply leave Practice Plus and re-join your old practice, or any other surgery, at any time. Be aware that a small number of practices no longer accept new patients, even if you were registered there previously. But most should be happy for you to re-register.
Can my family use Practice Plus too?
Everyone is welcome as a Practice Plus patient. Over 16s can register online at www.practiceplus.co.uk/registrations, in person at a Practice Plus surgery or over the phone by calling 0300 130 3333. Children under 16 will not be able to register online. If you have parental responsibility you will need to register your child in the surgery or over the phone. You’ll need to provide a birth or adoption certificate plus ID for the parent/guardian registering your child.
Under 16s are usually requested to have a parent/guardian with them during any consultations. However, our staff have the discretion to allow under 16s be seen without a parent/guardian present, if requested.
Can anyone register with Practice Plus?
Yes. Practice Plus is here for all NHS patients. However you have to live within our practice catchment area to register with us. Visit www.practiceplus.co.uk/our-locations to find out more. Please be aware need that if you live outside the catchment of our physical locations we won’t be able to provide you with home visits. My medical history is complicated. Can I still register?
Yes you can. You are very welcome at Practice Plus. We understand some patients have complex needs and Practice Plus is fully designed to support you. Indeed, we offer the entire spectrum of general practice primary care, ranging from pre-natal to end of life care.
I do not hold a British or European Union passport. Can I still register with Practice Plus?
The NHS in England is a residence-based system. If you are visiting the UK on a temporary basis either from within or outside the European Union or Switzerland then you cannot register with Practice Plus and you may have to pay for NHS healthcare, dependent on your circumstances.
If you have moved to the UK and hold a resident permit then you can register with Practice Plus. However we might ask you to bring your passport or resident permit to your first appointment to confirm that you are entitled to receive NHS treatment.
